My overall vision was to express feeling and embody the essence of energy that may be trapped within ourselves into something that reflects brings us back to simpler, happy times. Something that specifically reflects my own spirit and personality. Sometimes, there is complexity in simplicity, and vice versa. My work aims to embellish feeling through the motion of marbles. For me, marbles individually represent the practicality of how we use our energy throughout the day.
My work is inspired by at least two other artists. The first is Ernst Haas, who incorporated a lot of low shutter speeds in his photos, resulting in blurred moving objects. The second is David Levinthal, who took photos of toy figurines to create entire environments. My work in a similar case uses toys, but no people are involved. I was intrigued by Levinthal’s usage of extremely shallow depths of field to focus on the subject of the photo rather than the background, who’s style is implemented here.
All color usage is completely intentional in that the beige and white surroundings represent the uncertain and ambiguous situations within our lives, and the marbles, while encased in translucent glass contain a hint of color in the center. This represents our inner being in that while we ourselves may be uncertain because of what is around us, there is always a sense of hope inside that helps us to keep going.
